Eight Master Conservationists were honored at the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts (NARD) annual meeting and awards banquet in Kearney, Monday, September 26, 2011.

• The Midwest Spelling Bee
Each spring nearly 100 of the top spellers from Nebraska and western Iowa earn the right to compete in the Omaha World-Herald Midwest Spelling Bee by winning their county or district bees.
• World-Herald Holiday Band Concert
Presented as a gift to World-Herald readers, the performance by the nationally-acclaimed United States Air Force Heartland of America Band has become a holiday tradition.
