WAHOO, Neb. — Those searching for a business in the recent edition of their Windstream telephone book may have run into problems finding it.
Wahoo Mayor Jerry Johnson said his research has shown that more than 350 listings were inadvertently left out of the phone book.
Laura Kole, senior marketing director for Berry Co., confirmed that a number of businesses were left out of the free, white page listings. Berry prints Windstream phone books.
Kole said the omissions were caused by a computer problem.
"We are currently upgrading our system across the board at the national level," she said. "And unfortunately there was a gap in our software that identified some of our business listings as no longer being valid."
Kole said quality control measures did not catch the omissions. Other communities, such as Ceresco and Mead, had similar problems.
Johnson said he and others in Wahoo have been working with Windstream and Berry to try to sort out the problem.
"The issue is that, with all these businesses being left out, there's no way for either existing or future customers to look them up," Johnson said. "It might not be as big of a problem for in-town residents who have other resources available for them, but for those looking from out of town, it could keep them from finding what they're looking for."
Wahoo Chamber of Commerce Executive Assistant Jennifer Woita spoke with Berry representatives. "They've told us there's going to be an actual, physical supplement put together," she said.
Kole confirmed that a supplemental list of phone numbers will be available in physical and electronic forms for anyone who wants one.
